FOCUS ON SERVICE! As we enter summertime and the month of June, I encourage everyone to focus on service. Among the ways we are serving during June and beyond is our participation in Christian Community Action’s Kids Eat Free Program. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will be delivering free lunches to children in need, just as we have for many summers. Those meals are important to the welfare of the children who eat them. The meals are also an expression of our service to God. Let us all give strong support to this important mission project! Another important way we are called to be God’s workers is by being representatives of Jesus Christ. There are many persons who have either not been given Jesus’ invitation to receive God’s love and new life or who believe the invitation is not meant for them. As Jesus declared there is a plentiful harvest but few workers. Each of us is called to be a worker in the harvest! There are a multitude of ways for us to carry out this important service. For example, by welcoming, accepting, and showing abundant hospitality to our guests for Worship and other activities. Each of us can also invite family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to share in our Worship, Sunday School, and other activities. June also provides us the opportunity to show appreciation for the love and work of our fathers. Our Sunday, June 15th, Father’s Day Communion Worship will include the honoring and recognition of fathers. The sermon is based on Matthew 9:35-10:23 and is titled, “Be a Harvest Worker for Christ!” Sunday, June 22nd, the focus will be on what to expect as a worker for or as a disciple of Jesus Christ. The Scripture is Matthew 10:24-39 and is titled, “Do You Dare Be a Disciple?” Sunday, June 29th, we will sing many requested hymns. The Scripture is Psalm 89:1-4, 15-18. The sermon is titled, “Sing of God’s Constant and Steadfast Love!” During the next several months many of us will be taking vacations and we will be tempted to push God and Worship to the back burner. God is not on vacation, so let us dare to be workers for Christ! See you in Worship! -- Pastor Wells |
